Take Action
for Luna and Our Forests
It has now been over 600 days
since Julia Butterfly first ascended into Luna's branches, yet the
future for this ancient redwood and the surrounding hillside still
remains uncertain. Now more than ever it is imperative that we begin
to exert our collective strength upon the Pacific Lumber Company and
its owner Charles Hurwitz' Maxxam Corp. in order to achieve permanent
protection for Luna. We are calling for your participation in a mass
letter writing, call-in, and fax-in campaign. If each person visiting
this site participates at least once by writing, calling, and faxing
both PL and Maxxam we will make a difference.
Please write, call, and fax representatives of the Pacific Lumber
Company and Maxxam at the addresses and numbers listed below. Tell
them that you support Julia Butterfly's efforts and that they must
work toward granting permanent protection for the ancient redwood
Luna and a sufficient buffer zone on the surrounding hillside. We
stand for love and respect for all life, so please be respectful in
your communications with the employees of these companies. The secretary
on the other end of the line does not make company policy and may
be on your side. A sample letter is located below.

Dear Mr. Campbell,
Another winter is approaching, as you well know, and Julia Butterfly
Hill remains in Luna waiting for the Pacific Lumber Company and Maxxam
Corporation to bring this protection effort to a safe conclusion.
August 12th, 1999 marked Julia's 20th month in Luna, and with no solution
in sight, the increasing world media attention continues to cast Maxxam
and Pacific Lumber in a negative light. September 17th is the anniversary
of the death of David Gypsy Chain, and we ask in memory of his Spirit
that you spare Luna and the surrounding hillside. The American and
international public demand the health and safety of Luna and Julia;
I urge you, and the Pacific Lumber Company now to come forward to
work toward a solution.
By agreeing to spare Luna and the surrounding hillside from future
timber harvest activity, you will surely enhance the reputation of
your companies in the public eye, and guarantee that this internationally
observed event concludes with a safe and acceptable ending. On behalf
of the last of our remaining old growth redwood forests, and in particular
on behalf of the ancient redwood Luna, I am calling upon you to look
within your heart and do what will be in the best interest of all
parties involved by providing permanent protection for Luna.
Our eyes are on you.
With respect for all life,
